Every time you shop with us at Market, you’re doing more than supporting local farmers. You’re also making a difference in communities around the world.
Through the Rotary Club of Hall, the funds raised by the Market help power important projects that change lives in meaningful ways. One such project is the work of the Paediatric Surgical Specialist Team, who travel twice a year to the Solomon Islands to deliver life-saving care for children who would otherwise go without.
We wanted to share a recent letter of thanks from the team to our producers, so you can see firsthand the impact your support helps create:
To the Farmers and Producers of CRFM
We wanted to take a moment to share the impact that your stallholder fees at the Capital Region Farmers Market have made, not just here in Canberra, but far beyond.
Thanks to funding made possible by the Rotary Club of Hall, powered by your involvement in the Market, the Paediatric Surgical Specialist Team can travel to the National Referral Hospital on Guadal Canal twice a year to provide essential surgical interventions for children in the Solomon Islands, where there is no paediatric surgeon available.
The assistance we provide comes in the form of life-changing or life-saving operations. Our team consists of two paediatric surgeons, one anaesthetist, one theatre nurse and twoward nurses. For our April 2025 trip, we also brought a paediatric emergency physician and an extra anaesthetist to assist in our educational provision for doctors and nurses throughout the theatres, anaesthetic department, special care nursery, and paediatric ward.
Education involved mock arrest situations, skills labs for basic life support, resolution of anaesthetic emergencies, and our standard care of pre- and post-operative patients, which we continue on every trip.
Thank you to the Rotary Club of Hall, and by extension, the Capital Region Farmers Market Producers, from all of our members of the Paediatric Surgical Specialist Team, and the children of the Solomon Islands.
With heartfelt thanks,
Liz Hearn, RN
