Spring has sprung at the Market

Spring has sprung at the Market

We don’t know about you, but this year spring has just hit differently. Although it’s clear that the warm weather isn’t quite here to stay just yet, the glimpses of the warmer weather that we have had, like last weekend at Market for example, have been just enough to show us what’s on the way. And we’re honestly getting real joy out of the sunnier sunshine, the lighter evenings, and the sprinkling of new spring growth all around Canberra.

Spring is certainly the season for new growth, regrowth and getting back out into the garden, and the best people to come and see for expert advice are our local plant and flower growers at Market.

Each week we’ve got a great range of local plant and flower growers who grow the best plants that will thrive in the Canberra climate, to growing them well due to understanding their needs, to sharing with our customers the best ways to help the plants to establish and do well when you get them to your home.

Right now at Market, we are very proud of the local growers we feature including:

Canberra Native Nursery

Megan from Canberra Native Nursery is the go-to expert for cultivating a beautiful native garden. Known for locally growing ‘Canberra tough’ native plants from her nursery in Carwoola NSW, Megan grows over 100 different species of flora using only naturally derived or non-toxic pollinator-friendly products.

Canberra Colour

Paul DeJong from Canberra Colour has been growing stunning potted flowers in Bungendore for over 20 years. Each Saturday you’ll find an ever-changing array of vibrant potted colours as the seasons unfold. Whether you’re looking for something to brighten your outdoor space or some cheerful cut flowers to light up your home, Paul’s selection ensures you won’t be able to walk past empty-handed.

River Road Nursery

Peter Wenning from River Road Nursery in Oaks Estate has been supplying the Canberra community with high-quality plants for over 30 years. Offering everything from tube stock to established ornamental trees, Peter’s nursery grows plants acclimatised to local conditions, all at affordable wholesale prices.

Sutton Road Nursery

Karl from Sutton Road Nursery knows exactly what it takes to grow in Canberra’s challenging climate. A second-generation grower based in Sutton, Karl’s family has been providing plants to the region for over 40 years. Each week, you’ll find a fantastic range of plants, flowers, trees, and natives, don’t miss out on his fuchsias later this summer.

Elswood Rare Plants

Ben O’Brien from Elswood Rare Plants is a small plant nursery located at Crookwell in the NSW Southern Tablelands. Ben is passionate about rare, unusual and hard-to-find plants, and has been collecting the unusual for nearly a decade. Ben propagates a selection of these plants each year, offering them for sale so that others can enjoy them as much as he does. Elswood Rare Plants is expected to return late September.

Kuch’s Plants

Robert and Caitlin are growers and suppliers of a large variety of quality plants specialising in edible, fruiting, herbal and medicinal plants, with an ever-changing variety of new and exciting products. Based in Bungonia NSW, you can trust that your new seedlings have been specially grown for our cold climate weather!
