Produce with passion – Supporting the Alchemy Chorus

When you shop at the Capital Region Farmers Market, you’re not just buying fresh, local produce, you’re helping to fund meaningful community projects that make a real difference in people’s lives. One such initiative is the Alchemy Chorus, a unique community group that uses the power of music to support those living with dementia, their families, and their carers.

The Rotary Club of Hall has contributed $5000, funded by the Market’s stallholder fees, to help Alchemy Chorus continue its inspiring work. This contribution goes towards essentials such as venue hire, uniforms, and songbooks, allowing the chorus to keep spreading joy through music.

The magic of Alchemy Chorus

Founded here in Canberra in 2016 by Brian Triglone and inspired by the Giving Voice Chorus in Minnesota, USA, the Alchemy Chorus brings people together every Thursday for a morning of music, connection, and comfort. With up to 90 participants, the chorus sings through various beloved classics, from Doris Day to The Beatles, creating an environment where everyone is encouraged to “let it go” and enjoy the moment.

While the well-documented impact of music on the brain is especially profound for those with dementia, the Alchemy Chorus offers much more. It’s about more than just the music, it provides a place where carers and their loved ones can get together in a shared experience, allowing them to interact with others going through similar challenges. For many, Thursdays bring a sense of joy and hope that makes a difference.

A voice for everyone

At Alchemy Chorus, every voice is important. Whether you’ve sung all your life, are returning to it after years, or are entirely new to performing, you’re welcomed with open arms. Solos and duets often arise spontaneously, and for those with more advanced dementia, the music becomes a soothing presence, offering peace in the moment.

The chorus is a place where families, partners, and friends can connect through music, creating memories while sharing in the joy of song. It’s about more than singing, it’s about togetherness, compassion, and the love of music.

How your support makes a difference

Thanks to the support of Capital Region Farmers Market customers and the funding from stallholder fees, the Rotary Club of Hall can back projects like Alchemy Chorus. Your contributions help create opportunities for those living with dementia and their carers to experience moments of joy, laughter, and connection.

So, next time you visit the market, know that every purchase you make is helping to create a brighter future for those in our community. Whether it’s funding essential programs like Alchemy Chorus or supporting international health missions, your support is helping to make a difference.
