What’s in season – Cherries

It’s cherry season and we could not be more excited!

Cherries are at their peak season in Canberra from late November to early January, so now is the perfect time to head to Market and grab some. Many of our growers pride themselves on producing some of the most delicious cherries in the country, thanks to the nearby region’s cool climate and fertile soils.

Not only are they extremely delicious, but cherries also pack a healthy punch! Cherries are rich in antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and even help reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes. They also contain melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate sleep, making them a natural way to help you sleep better. Plus, cherries are an excellent source of vitamin C, which is great for boosting your immune system and keeping your skin glowing.

How to make the most of this cherry season

One of the many great things about cherries is their versatility. You can enjoy them fresh, frozen, or dried, and they’re perfect for both sweet and savoury dishes. Here are a few ideas to get you inspired this summer.

Dessert doesn’t get much better than a delicious homemade cherry pie, the perfect balance of sweetness to level out the tartness of the cherries. The bonus is it makes your whole house smell amazing while it’s baking.

Making up a big batch of cherry jam is a great way to get the most out of your cherries – plus it makes the perfect little gift for friends and family.

Add a burst of flavour to your next BBQ or taco night with this sweet and tangy cherry salsa.

Why not try out some cherry cocktails for the festive season? There is a whole range of great drinks that look and taste amazing.

Of course, you can also enjoy them on their own as a snack, especially when they taste as good as the ones at the Market right now!

As cherry season reaches its peak, there’s no better time to enjoy this delicious and nutritious fruit. So, make sure you head down to the Market and make the most of their seasonal beauty.
