Discover the importance bees and pollinators. Entertainment and activities for the whole family.
Capital Region Farmers Market continues to recognise World Bee Day as a day of huge importance because all growers and food producers rely on bees and other pollinating insects for their survival.
This year, World Bee Day is celebrated across the globe on 20 May – and we’d love you to celebrate with us at Market on Saturday 24 May 2025.
The importance of bees and pollinators
This year we’re focusing on the theme of pollination. Did you know Canberrans can help with pollinating by planting pollinator-friendly plants and being aware of the different types of pollinators you can find locally? (hint – it’s not ONLY bees!)
Food security – nearly two-thirds of Australia’s agricultural production benefits from bee pollination.
Biodiversity – some plant species can only be pollinated by particular bee species. So, if that bee species dies, so too will the plant.
Ecosystem health –Maintaining plant diversity supports other essential ecosystem services including helping to regulate climate, purifying air and water, building soil and recycling nutrients.
How we’re celebrating World Bee Day at Market
Visitors can meet a beekeeper and try delicious honey-themed treats at the Rotary Club of Hall information tent.
Enjoy entertainment and art for the kids including face painting and music.
Get involved with painting the ‘CRFM hives’ – kids can decorate our large beehive mural with potato stamps and paint.
Beekeepers and farmers who rely on bees will be onsite and available to talk about the importance of bees.
Planter growers will be available to talk about the importance of pollinating plants in Canberra gardens.
Enjoy exclusive and tasty honey-themed food from our producers.
