Voting has now officially closed for Term 4 of our Market Munchies School Grants program.

Thank you to our participating schools and families for being involved and supporting gardening and food programs within our community.

We’re so excited to announce the final winning school of 2023.

The winning school of the $15,000 Market Munchie Grant is Harrison School!

Due to the overwhelming response for our other nominated schools we are very proud to announce that both North Ainslie Primary School and Giralang Primary School will also be provided a grant of $250 to put towards their school gardens as well.

How would you like to score a $1500 grant for your school?

And how would you like to do it knowing that you’ll also be educating your school’s students on the importance of eating locally grown fresh food and supporting local farmers and producers?

Capital Region Farmers Market, run by the not-for-profit Rotary Club of Hall, is seeking local schools to partner with for our new program – Market Munchies, Capital Region Farmers Market School Grants.

The schools nominated for Term 4, 2023 Market Munchie Grants are:

  • Giralang Primary School
  • North Ainslie Primary School
  • Harrison School

Voting is now open! Bring your CLEAN milk bottle lids to the market for donating to Lids4Kids and vote for your favourite school.

Voting closes 2nd December 2023.

The Aim?

  • To educate school children on the importance of fresh food and farming.
  • To encourage children and their families to shop for food with lower food miles, and food that supports local and regional farmers and growers.
  • To demonstrate that the Capital Region Farmers Market is a positive healthy eating hub in the community, supporting the healthy eating of those who shop there.

What’s in it for your school?

A way to promote healthy eating and to cultivate healthy school kids.

Learning about local growers, farmers and producers and about how a farmers market works could align with your school’s healthy eating program and complement work done at school around food, gardening and science.

Capital Region Farmers Market will provide one local school per school term with a $1500 grant that your school can put towards your own nominated programs which assist with educating children on healthy diet, growing your own food, the importance of eating food with low food miles and supporting local farmers and growers.

In addition to the grant money, Capital Region Farmers Market will offer your school:

  • The opportunity to have a stall at Market to sell your own garden produce, or produce of choice, as an additional fundraiser for your school.
  • The chance for your students to hold their own cooking demonstration at the Market creating their own recipe using fresh Market produce and/or food they have grown themselves.

How does it work?

  1. Simply nominate your school to take part via the contact below.
  2. Capital Region Farmers Market will pick three schools who have registered to go in the running for the schools grant each school term.
  3. The Market will announce the schools in the running and setup a ‘jar system’ for voting for your schools onsite at the Capital Region Farmers Market at the Rotary Information Desk. Voting ‘tokens’ will be milk bottle lids. Those who wish to vote should bring in their own milk bottle lids to vote. These will be donated to Canberra Charity Lids4Kids Australia following each grant campaign (school term).
  4. The School students and their families can vote for your school over a four-week period. One vote per person.
  5. The Market will be promoting the schools in the running via their website, social media and enewsletters to encourage visitors to support and vote. Schools taking part will also receive images and content so that they can promote the voting via their own school or P&C channels.
  6. At the end of the school term the Market will announce the winning school who will receive the grant and Market Munchies support at Market.
  7. If your school is not successful on first time, they are more than welcome to register for the next term’s grant round.
  8. Schools who are successful at winning a grant are not eligible to enter for the next 12 months.
