For those of you who are fungi fanatics, you may recognise our producer in focus for this month, Majestic Mushrooms.
After a decade of working in their respective fields, Helen and Ian Chu were ready for a change of pace. So, in 2006, they founded Majestic Mushrooms and embarked on a new journey full of growth, discovery and of course, delicious mushrooms.
Majestic Mushroom’s farm is located just 25 minutes from Canberra in Murrumbateman, NSW. This prime location gives them the distinction of being the closest mushroom supplier to Canberra, which means that our marketgoers have access to the freshest mushrooms around.
Ian’s background in engineering has been put to great use at Majestic Mushroom’s farm. He has designed and built a cutting-edge climate control system that allows him to keep a watchful eye on the farm’s growing rooms at all times, right from his iPhone. Imagine having the ability to control finite details of your farm with just a few taps on your phone.
This state-of-the-art technology enables Ian to simulate the perfect mushroom growing environment, meaning they can supply their customers with fresh, delicious mushrooms all year round.
Majestic Mushrooms is not just about growing the freshest and most delicious mushrooms, they are also committed to sustainability and finding ways to make the most out of their resources.
In addition to their mushroom harvest, they also distribute spent mushroom compost and mushroom stalks. Mushroom compost is a valuable resource for farmers and gardeners alike, thanks to the porous nature of mushrooms and their ability to balance soil pH levels. Not only it is great for growing plants, but it is also a sustainable way to get rid of organic waste.
Mushroom stalks, on the other hand, are a great alternative food source for cattle. These are rich in nutrients and can be used as a healthy and sustainable feed option for livestock.
Next time you’re at Market, make sure that you take a visit to Majestic Mushrooms and sample some of their delicious mushrooms.
