Produce with passion – Supporting the GO Foundation

This year, we have shared so many amazing stories of how the Rotary Club of Hall (RCH) have helped support the community.  When you shop at the Market, you’re not just buying fresh, local produce, you’re helping to fund meaningful community projects that make a real difference in people’s lives. One of these great causes is the GO Foundation. The GO Foundation empowers students from underrepresented communities by providing mentorship, educational support, and opportunities to help them thrive academically and personally, fostering a pathway to success.

Thanks to the significant financial support from the RCH, the GO Foundation has had an incredibly productive year in 2024. One of the highlights was the recent Culture Connect Days, held in September for students from Canberra and the surrounding region. This provided an opportunity for students to engage in cultural activities, including traditional damper-making, while highlighting the Foundation’s commitment to connecting students with their heritage and community.

The GO Foundation continues to support 56 students in Canberra across various educational stages, including primary school, high school, college, and university. Most recently, the RCH was able to help provide support in awarding a new scholarship to Mikayla, a proud Ngiyamppa woman studying a Bachelor of Health Science at the Australian National University (ANU). Mikayla is looking to enter the Doctor of Medicine program upon completing her three-year degree, with hopes of making a meaningful contribution to her community through her future career.

Another one of our 2023 graduates is Siobhan, who is working towards entry into the ANU Law program. Currently on her gap year, Siobhan is a dedicated member of the Foundation’s Alumni network and recently spoke on a panel at the Sydney Big Lunch, showcasing her commitment to both her education and her community.

The GO Foundation’s scholarship application process for 2025 is already open, and the team is working hard to support students and families through the application journey. Throughout November, Scholarship Program Officer Jay Wathen is visiting Canberra schools to provide guidance and ensure students have access to the opportunities the Foundation offers. For five years now, the Rotary Club of Hall has been a proud major sponsor of the GO Foundation’s First Nations scholarship initiative in the Canberra region, playing a crucial role in supporting these talented students on their educational journeys.
