Calling all cake makers! – show us your best cake creations to celebrate 20 years of Capital Region Farmers Market

Are you a talented cake maker? Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a cake connoisseur? Know your way around a butter cream and love the challenge that fondant just keeps giving?

Then we’d love to hear from you!

This year Canberra’s favourite farmers market, Capital Region Farmers Market, celebrates 20 years. 20 years supporting farmers, makers and producers of the Canberra Region, 20 years providing Canberrans and their families with the best and freshest produce each weekend, 20 years supporting worthy community projects via their Founders, the Rotary Club of Hall.

Our official celebrations will take place at Market on Saturday 16th March 2024, and we want to see what the talented cake makers of the Canberra region can bring to the table by way of celebratory cakes to mark this very special milestone.

The only requirement? Your cake must fit the brief – 20 years of Capital Region Farmers Market. Think fresh produce, farmers and the community! You’re only limited by your imagination! (and size! – all cakes must fit on standard size store-bought cake boards please). Entries are open to all ages from Canberra and the surrounding region who are available to bring their cake to Market for the judging on Saturday 16th March 2024.

Prizes! Did we mention prizes?!

We will award winning cakes in two categories – the Adult category, and Under 14s category. In the adult category, winning cakes will receive Market gift vouchers to be spent with any stallholders – $600 for first prize, $200 for second prize and $100 for third prize. For the Under 14s category, winning cakes will receive Market gift vouchers to be spent with any stallholders –  $200 for first prize, $100 for second prize and $50 for third prize.

There will also be a Shoppers Choice Prize of $100 Gift Vouchers as voted by our shoppers on the day.

So, what will you create? A fruit bowl made of cake, a farmer out in the field, a Farmers Market in miniature, a basket of freshly picked vegetables, or an ode to Rotary Club of Hall that started the Market 20 years ago? Knowing Canberrans, we’re sure the efforts won’ t be half-baked.
