What’s in season? More asparagus, spinach and rhubarb

Fresh grown and local spinach at the Capital Region Farmers MarketOctober is upon us and spring is in full swing.  Despite the recent wet weather, we’ve got some tasty seasonal fresh produce in right now including asparagus, spinach and rhubarb.

Early spring vegies like asparagus are packed with vitamins and awesome health benefits, and you can grab a bunch or two from stallholders Donald Smith Horticulture and Melissa Pure Fresh Honey.

Spinach has long been known for its health benefits, it’s low in fat and cholesterol, high in niacin and zinc, and full of protein, fibre and vitamins A, C, E and K to name a few. Come in for fresh baby spinach from Melissa Pure Fresh Honey, and English spinach from Mowbray Park Produce. And rhubarb! Yum! Another one packed with minerals, vitamins, protein and fibre. And who doesn’t love rhubarb pie, crumble or the tart fruit stewed and poured over ice cream or cream? You can bag some rhubarb at the Market from our stallholders B&S Fresh Produce and Deua River Farm Produce.
