Farmer in Focus – Drive In Orchards

For nearly two decades, Drive In Orchards has been a valued stallholder of the Capital Region Farmers Markets, bringing fresh, seasonal fruit to Canberra tables.

Based in Young, NSW, this family-owned and operated orchard has been growing an impressive variety of fruits since 1991, including cherries, plums, green plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, figs, mulberries, loquats, and pomegranates.

The journey began with Wasem Ali, who started bringing his cherries to the Market in 2006. A true family affair, Wasem was often joined by his young sons at the stall. Over the years, this tradition of dedication and hard work has been passed down, with Wasem’s son Mohammed now running the stall.

Mohammed continues his father’s legacy at the Market, showcasing the orchards’ cherries with market-goers every season.

Now with two very young children of his own, we can’t wait to see the next generation of the Ali family joining the Market in the years to come, continuing their rich tradition of farming and connection with the community.

Drive In Orchards is a true reflection of the passion and hard work behind every piece of fruit they bring to the Market. Their commitment to quality, family values, and bringing the best of their harvest to Canberra makes them an essential part of our Market family.
