Add some Canberra Colour to your garden

Something about spring has just hit differently this year – we’re almost two thirds of our way through this spring season and it’s just giving such joy each week at the Market. Not least due to the large splashes of green and pops of vibrant colour from our plant growers as they mill about in the morning sunshine.

Someone who knows a lot about our horticultural delights at Market is local grower, Paul de Jong from Canberra Colour, who is really in the thick of the spring growing season right now. And you’ll find him each Saturday at Market with the Canberra Colour range of potted colour, along with tomato and vegetable seedlings.

Paul has been growing plants and flowers in Bungendore for almost two decades, originally growing Zanteschia hybrids, commonly known as Calla Lily, they grew rhizomes and cut flowers of this genus for the wholesale Market, even exporting to the Netherlands and US. Eventually Canberra Colour moved into herbs, veggies and potted colour, mainly selling to the Canberra market.

One of the things Paul and the Canberra Colour team pride themselves on is their use of green energy for their electricity, and recycling of plastic pots. They actively encourage all customers to return the plastic pots from any plant purchases at Market for reuse.

Today, Canberra Colour grows a whopping 300 different lines over a 12-month period. Right now, and over the coming weeks as we hit the even warmer weather, Canberra Colour will have many varieties available including fuchsias, carnations, dahlias, petunias, marigolds, and loads of summer vegetables and herbs including tomatoes, chilli, cucumber and basil.

Catch Paul and Canberra Colour’s large range of cut flowers, potted colour and vegetable seedlings every Saturday at Capital Region Farmers Market.
