14 February 2015 – Valentine’s Day at the CRFM

Perhaps you are after something sweet for that special someone or special slice of fresh bread?  The team from Win’s Creek Honey have some beautiful raw honey from their Hawker hive.  Did you know that raw honey;

  • has been filtered, but in a way that doesn’t destroy its nutrients.
  • is not pasteurised (the heating and filtration process that makes it clear), so all its beneficial enzymes are still present.
  • can be solid at room temperature (depending on how cold it is), and is milky (not clear). It’s about twice as sweet as sugar, so you don’t need to use as much.

You will find bucket loads of Blackberries from Nashdale at the Ellamatta Orchards stall.  Only a few weeks left of the season but what a season it’s been! It’s the cultivated Thornless Chester variety that Graham grows on trellises.  Consider using them in your smoothies. Yummo!

Well well well, hasn’t the prickly pear come a long way.  Just when you thought it was a weed it appears as a culinary delight from the HillLock Orchard family.

  • The prickly pear plant has three different edible sections: the pad of the cactus (nopal), which can be treated like a vegetable, the petals of the flowers, which can be added to salads, and the pear (tuna), which can be treated like a fruit.
  • The ones on the Hill Lock stall have had their spines removed but still be careful until you have removed them all. Glove up!

The Pelargoniums and Geraniums from the Crisp Gro stall look beautiful.  Consider a living plant for that special someone who is partial to a forever Valentine’s gift.Crisp Pelargonium-2

New stallholder alert!! We have the lovely Kat from Pupcake Bakery attending her first market with us.  Whose pooch wouldn’t love a tasty treat!
