What’s in Season: Stone Fruits and Fruit Mince Tarts

Stone Fruit:

In Australia we are blessed to have Christmas in summer. Firing up the barbie for a sunny outdoor lunch, followed by an afternoon swim or game of backyard cricket, and of course deliciously sweet in-season stone fruit!

This month we turn our attention to the juicy peaches and nectarines we’re seeing at the Market coming from much-loved stallholders Harrison and Sons, Willayoung Orchard and Thornbrook Orchards.

These summer stone fruits are not only a sweet snack the kids will love, they’re also rich in vitamins A, C and E and are also a great source of dietary fibre and potassium.

Do you like your peaches nice and sweet? A good way to tell how sweet they are is looking for small white freckles on the top half. Peaches and nectarines are the perfect snack for any time of day, and are great sliced into fruit salads or pies, and are perfectly suited to sit atop a pavlova.

Fruit Mince Tarts:

Fruit mince tarts are another classic Christmas tradition for many. There are a few debates on the best recipe for a fruit mince tart, but there is no debate that these little pockets of goodness are as tasty as it gets!

Enjoyed in moderation, these festive snacks can provide the perfect energy boost you need to get through your busy Christmas afternoon.

You can pick up fruit mince tarts at a few places around the Market, but some of our favourites come from Bush Bread of Australia, Husk Bakery, Crème n Sugar Patisserie and Three Mills Bakery.
