Producer in focus – Narooma Seafood Direct

Narooma Seafood Direct is more than just one of our stallholders, they truly embody the spirit of a family-run business.

As a third-generation fishing family, the Abbots have been honing their craft for over 80 years. Their expertise and commitment to quality are evident in their top-quality fresh seafood with produce such as tuna, prawns, calamari and a range of fresh fish.

John and Vicki Abbott represent the second generation of this proud fishing lineage. You’ll often see Vicki at the market every Saturday, where she shares her expert advice on what’s in season and offers tips on how to prepare your seafood. The third generation, Todd and Ryan, split their time between the boats and the market, often bringing along thrilling stories of their adventures at sea. And if you’ve been missing Hayley, she’s been busy establishing their second fishery in the sunny waters of Vanuatu.

This expansion into Vanuatu allows the Abbott family to grow their operations and strengthen fish and food security both in Australia and for their export markets.

At the Capital Region Farmers Market, you have the rare opportunity to buy directly from the fishermen, knowing exactly where your seafood comes from. Narooma Seafood Direct is one of the few remaining family-run fisheries in Australia, and Vicki, along with her sons, is always ready to share insights on when the fish was caught and how best to enjoy it. Their passion and knowledge make every purchase an experience.

Buying from Narooma Seafood Direct means you’re not just getting great seafood, you’re connecting with a rich tradition and supporting a family business that truly cares about its product. So next time you’re at the Market, be sure to pop by and catch up with the team from Narooma Seafood Direct.
