Farmer in Focus – Jafaris Produce

If you’ve ever stopped by Jafaris Produce at the Market, you’ve likely been greeted by the warm smile of Rahmatullah Jafari (or Jeff as he’s known to the regulars).

With a deep passion for farming and a love for Australia, Rahmatullah brings fresh, soil-grown produce straight from his farm in Young, NSW, to Canberra tables every weekend.

Rahmatullah’s journey to becoming a farmer in Australia is as rich as the soil he grows in. Originally from Afghanistan then migrating to Iran, his family were farmers, growing chrysanthemums and vegetables. Rahmatullah’s dream to move to Australia started young, sharing that he was inspired by childhood memories of watching The Man from Snowy River and Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. He finally fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving here in 2013.

After arriving in Sydney, and then settling in Canberra, Rahmatullah found the perfect land in Young to start his own farm. Jafaris Produce is built on traditional farming values – everything is grown in soil, under the open sky, with no greenhouses or hydroponics, meaning minimal fertilisers and a commitment to natural growing methods.

At Jafaris Produce, freshness is a guarantee. All produce is harvested on Thursday or Friday, ensuring it arrives fresh in Canberra for our Saturday Market. His stall is a favourite among shoppers looking for flavourful, naturally grown vegetables at a great price.

But for Rahmatullah, the Market is about more than just selling produce, it’s about building relationships.

“The people here are so friendly. I love the connection I have with my customers. You get to know them, and they really come to support farmers. They appreciate the quality of my produce and my prices. I really appreciate my customers. Thank you for supporting small businesses. It means so much. I am very happy to be here.”

Next time you visit the Market, be sure to stop by Jafaris Produce to say hello and pick up some of the freshest, most naturally grown produce around.
