Celebrate Market In Bloom

Join us for a special Market, our Market in Bloom, this Saturday 28 September, as we celebrate Spring and the joys of gardening.

Created to celebrate our love of Canberra’s favourite annual flower and gardening show, Floriade, our event gives a nod to this year’s Floriade theme, Art in Bloom.

We’re bringing together a whole lot of local plant growers who manage everything themselves, so you know you’re getting top-quality cold-climate plants perfect for our Canberra environment.

Market in Bloom will be a great alternative to major nurseries, with several growers onsite to provide the best local plant advice.

ABC Radio Canberra will be broadcasting live from 8.30am with Emma Bickley and ‘Willow’ and they’ll be presenting Saturday Gardening. Bring in your problem plants and prickly questions to get answered.

We’ll also be treated to a cooking challenge with Canberra’s own Louis Couttoupes who’ll be whipping up a feast with fresh farm produce from the market. Watch live from 10am.

We’ll also have kids’ arts and crafts activities and face painting. Watercolour painting where you can paint your own Capital Region Farmers Market postcard celebrating 20 years of supporting the community and still growing strong! Plus there will be some great educational talks from the Rotary Club of Hall about the exciting environmental projects funded by stallholder fees at the Market

Meet our local growers

At the Capital Region Farmers Market, we’re proud to feature growers who are experts in their craft, cultivating plants that thrive in our unique Canberra climate. Whether you’re building a native oasis, looking to add mature trees or colourful spring flowers, building out your veggie patch or looking for something new and unusual, our local growers have you sorted.

Each Saturday you’ll find an ever-changing array of vibrant potted colours as the seasons unfold. Whether you’re looking for something to brighten your outdoor space or some cheerful cut flowers to light up your home, Paul’s selection ensures you won’t be able to walk past empty-handed.

Canberra Native Nursery
Megan from Canberra Native Nursery is the go-to expert for cultivating a beautiful native garden. Known for locally growing ‘Canberra tough’ native plants from her nursery in Carwoola NSW, Megan is passionate about Australia’s amazing plants and their ecosystems.

Elswood Rare Plants
Ben O’Brien from Elswood Rare Plants is a small plant nursery located at Crookwell in the NSW Southern Tablelands. Ben is passionate about rare, unusual and hard-to-find plants, and has been collecting the unusual for nearly a decade. Ben propagates a selection of these plants each year, offering them for sale so that others can enjoy them as much as he does.

Greenhill Farm
Did you know that Greenhill Farm, our organic and biodynamic veggie grower, also offers a fantastic selection of tomato seedlings? These heirloom varieties are grown on their organic farm in Bungendore and are incredibly popular, so make sure to get in early on Saturday mornings.
Whether you’re after large or small tomatoes, Greenhill Farm has something special for your summer growing season.

Sutton Road Nursery
Karl from Sutton Road Nursery knows exactly what it takes to grow in Canberra’s challenging climate. A second-generation grower based in Sutton, Karl’s family has been providing plants to the region for over 40 years. Each week, you’ll find a fantastic range of plants, flowers, trees, and natives, don’t miss out on his fuchsias later this summer.

By buying from our local growers, you’re not just supporting local businesses, you’re also investing in plants that are better suited to our climate than those shipped from interstate. We spoke to our growers earlier this year, and they couldn’t stress enough the importance of locally grown plants for long-term garden success. You can hear from our growers here.
