30 May 2015 – Feijoa & Jerusalem Artichokes Aplenty

With a new Market Manager on deck, Adrienne is taking some breakfast in to the ABC 666 studio for presenter Greg Bayliss and producer Pete WIlliams to sample while chatting about what’s fresh, seasonal and irresistible in her CRFM shopping bag.

Win’s Creek Honey will be filling up a thermos full of steaming hot mulled mead and Owen from Dream Cuisine has offered a tasty tart.  It could be choc/chestnut, banoffee or apple caramel or even a brulee,  Just depends what the baker bakes on the day.

Greg will get the opportunity to taste some rice cakes produced by our Murrami based rice grower, Randall Organic Rice, topped with black garlic, grown and fermented in Michelago by the team from Ingelara.

It has a wonderfully complex flavour. Black garlic is sweet meets savoury, a perfect mix of molasses-like richness with tangy garlic undertones. It has a tender, almost jelly-like texture with a melt-in-your-mouth consistency similar to a soft dried fruit.

In season now are Feijoa’s grown organically at Hall by Loriendale Orchard.  It’s a reasonably short season that should see them available until mid June.  Consider whipping up a chocolate/feijoa cake or using them in a savoury salsa combined witrh coriander, chilli, mint and lemon juice.  Perfect to top a salmon steak.

You will also find Jerusalem Artichokes grown by Windellama Organics.  Available now through until mid July.  Great for roasting and adding to soups.
