Treat your Dad to a Ploughman’s Lunch this Father’s Day

Fathers Day?! How has that rolled around so quickly?! It’s hard to believe that this crazy year we call 2020 has already reached September, and that Father’s Day is this Sunday. With restaurant bookings as rare as hens teeth, why not treat Dad to the ultimate Ploughman’s Lunch built from delicious ingredients from our region’s best producers? Ploughman’s Lunches were originally known as the Farm Worker’s Lunch, and are traditionally comprised of chunks of bread, meat, vegetables and cheeses.

Come to Market and collect everything you need to create Dad or Grandad a lunch to remember with olives from Bryan Loader, smoked trout from Cypress Valley or some smoked chicken or pork belly from Murray River Smokehouse (formerly Butt’s Smokehouse.) There are some fine selections of cheeses from Leaning Oak Dairy or Tilba Real Dairy, ham from Boxgum Grazing, and you’ll be spoilt for choice for salamis and kabana from Wagga Free Range Pork or Deda’s Smokehouse. Breads from Origin Bake, Bush Bread of Australia or Three Mills Bakery make the perfect base, with either a simple addition of olive oil (Homeleigh Grove or La Barre Olives,) or a lip smacking relish from Black Horse Fine Foods or Windellama Organics. Add some greens and radishes from Banjo’s Paddock and you’re all set. If your special someone is a fan of sweets, finish off his lunch with a treat from Jasper and Myrtle Chocolate or Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory. There are still many delights to be had, and fab foodie ways to celebrate this Father’s Day. All he’ll need will be a nap after that lunch!
