What’s in Season: Autumn Produce

With so many different fruits, nuts, and vegetables currently in season, it was simply too difficult to choose just one to focus on this month – so let’s celebrate some of the amazing food that is in season at the Market at the moment.

With Mother’s Day this Sunday, there’s plenty of seasonal produce to create something truly special and unique for the special Mum (or Mums) in your life.

Nuts:

Chestnuts from Featherdale Chestnuts are in season, and you won’t want to miss out on some of Terry’s freshly roasted chestnuts available on-site.

Looking for some delicious walnuts for your warm autumn salads? You can find freshly harvested walnuts from Alpine Nuts – perfect for roasting, warm salads and so many other delightful treats.

Fruit:

It’s easy to get creative in the kitchen with the flavours of seasonal autumn fruits. Discover quinces, persimmons, and pomegranates for bright bursts of colour that also provide unique flavours perfect for setting your dish apart from the rest.

Heritage and common varieties of apples and pears are still in season, and these are fantastic for eating as healthy snacks or to be used to bake hot pies or crumbles for dessert on cool autumn nights.

And, of course, you can’t go past the sharp and zingy scent of citrus at this time of year! We have a variety of new-season oranges, mandarins and lemons available from a number of stallholders.

Vegetables:

Potatoes and pumpkins are stealing the show right now. You’ll find many of our stallholders have different varieties, so be sure to look around and chat with our friendly producers, they’ll be more than happy to help you find your favourite varieties.
