Producer in Focus – Tree Tops Batlow

With only 5 remaining original stallholders, we treasure the opportunity to chat with one of the originals on our 20th Anniversary Year. And one such original is Rhonda Skein from Tree Tops Batlow.

Rhonda and her husband Malcolm have been regulars since that very first market in March 2004 and have been attending through droughts and floods, bushfires and heatwaves, hail and sun ever since.

“It’s been wonderful to be at Market over the past 20 years. We see so many familiar faces who come back to us each weekend. Some of them have grown up and had families of their own. Canberra is a special place where community is celebrated, and this is felt especially at Capital Region Famers Market, with stallholders and customers.”

Fresh from the high-altitude apple orchards of Batlow, Tree Tops will be at Market this coming weekend with their tasty varieties of apples.

“We are extremely fortunate to be at Market each season to bring our produce to Canberra. We recommend trying our Fuji Apples – they’re delightful this season,” says Rhonda.

On average, Australians eat 10kg of apples per year, and with the 10,000 tree orchard at Batlow, Tree Tops Batlow is doing its part to keep Canberrans well supplied. Customers of the Market have enjoyed discussing the best fruit options with Rhonda over the years and many Canberra families have had a Tree Top apple in their lunch box!

Known for their value and quality, you can get a great selection of apples at Tree Tops Batlow at the moment including Pink Lady, Rosy Glow, Fuji, Granny Smith, Gala, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious and Jonathon Gold as well as stone fruit in the summer.

We extend our thanks to Rhonda for being a valued part of our Market community. Find Rhonda every Saturday morning in stall 15/16.
