What’s in Season – Citrus

As we step into the last month of winter, we’re all searching for ways we can brighten up our lives and add in a little bit more colour and warmth. What better way to do just that than with this year’s delicious in-season citrus?
It may come as a surprise that many varieties of citrus fruits are actually in peak season during winter.

Citrus fruits don’t just supply a splash of colour to your diet, but they hold a huge nutritional value and have lots of health benefits when consumed. Did you know that one orange has almost twice the recommended daily Vitamin C intake? Vitamin C is a great way to combat the winter flu season, with contributions to immune defence through the support of cellular immune functions.

As well as their immune benefits, citrus fruits are great to have handy as they can easily be used in an assortment of recipes and cuisines. The complex sweet and sour taste profiles make these fruits the perfect addition to a variety of dishes, such as a delicious orange poppy seed cake or a mouth-watering roast chicken with rosemary and lemon.

Long-time market stallholders Auddino’s Produce are currently providing market-goers with a wide range of citrus fruits, including grapefruits, oranges, mandarins, and lemons. Auddino’s Produce are also currently stocking Cara Cara oranges – a seedless variety of orange that are easier to eat due to also having less acidity, and less pulp. Cara Cara oranges have a very short season, so make sure you get to Market to try the sweetness for yourself.

Unfortunately, Auddino’s Produce are unable to attend on August 6th but will be back with this great selection of produce on August 13.
